Description & Care
Hoya compacta, is a classic and beloved variety known for its thick, twisted, rope-like vines and deeply curled, succulent leaves. The cascading growth habit gives it a sculptural, almost draped appearance that looks stunning in hanging pots or on shelves where the vines can trail and twist naturally.
This slow-growing Hoya is prized not only for its unique foliage, but also for its fragrant, star-shaped flower clusters that appear on mature plants. The blooms form on persistent peduncles and can rebloom year after year, producing sweetly scented, waxy pink and white flowers when conditions are right.
Hoya compacta is a tough, low-maintenance plant that thrives in bright indoor light and prefers to dry out between waterings, making it a great choice for both collectors and beginners who want something visually striking but easy to care for.
Light: Bright, indirect light. Can tolerate some gentle morning sun. Higher light encourages better growth and blooming.
Water: Allow soil to dry mostly between waterings. Overwatering can cause root rot. Prefers a chunky, well-draining mix.
Humidity: Enjoys moderate to high humidity but adapts well to normal household conditions.
Temperature: 65–85°F. Protect from cold drafts and temperatures below 55°F.
Growth: Slow-growing, trailing plant with thick, twisted, rope-like vines. Blooms on mature growth and reblooms from the same peduncles.
