Description & Care

Alocasia micholitziana ‘Frydek’ Variegated, often called Variegated Green Velvet Alocasia, is a stunning collector aroid prized for its velvety, deep green leaves splashed with dramatic white to cream variegation. Each leaf is uniquely patterned, making every plant truly one of a kind and a standout in any collection.

The contrast between the soft, dark, suede-like texture of the foliage and the crisp variegation gives this plant an especially high-end, luxurious look. As the plant matures, leaves can grow larger and more striking, especially when grown in warm, humid conditions with bright light.

Because variegated plants have less chlorophyll, bright, indirect light is especially important to keep this plant healthy and to maintain strong, stable variegation. While it can be a bit more particular than standard Frydek, with the right care it is an incredibly rewarding and show-stopping plant.

Light: Bright, indirect light. Avoid harsh direct sun, but provide plenty of light to support and maintain variegation.

Water: Keep soil lightly and evenly moist, but not soggy. Allow the top inch or two to dry slightly between waterings. Use a well-draining, airy aroid mix.

Humidity: Prefers higher humidity (60%+). Higher humidity helps prevent leaf damage and supports strong growth.

Temperature: 65–85°F. Protect from cold drafts and temperatures below 60°F.

Growth: Upright, clumping growth with velvety, arrow-shaped leaves. Moderate grower under good conditions; each leaf shows unique variegation patterns.
